FROM HAIR DO TO I DO!
I’m no stranger to working with clients and helping them to create their vision for a special celebration or event. Yes I’ve seen it all, the tears, the tantrums, the triumphs and I love it! I’ve made a career out of working with people and helping them put their best self forward and now I get to take it to another level as a Celebrant.
Before becoming a Celebrant I had a long and wonderful career as a professional hairdresser, running my own salon in Melbourne’s beautiful bayside areas Albert Park and St Kilda. Throughout this period, I heard endless stories from clients about their wedding day disasters, not their hair of course that was always on point and stunning! Clients would often say to me ‘if only my wedding planner, celebrant, worked with me like you do Steve, actually listened to what I want, then it would have been ok’
One day the penny, ok bobby pin, dropped, I thought it’s time for a career change and I know exactly what I want to do. I love working with people and am known to be a down to earth, people person and have always had the ability to put people at ease in even the most difficult and stressful situations. It was clear that with my experience and personality there was one career that was a natural fit, and after taking time out to study, I graduated and became a qualified Registered Civil Celebrant.
My transformation from hair do, to I do, was complete.
The skills that I used in my former business have proved to be invaluable in my role as a celebrant - one has to be a good listener, posses the ability to understand clients needs, work harmoniously in a calm professional manner, problem solve, have the ability to work under pressure, be engaging and a good story teller. To have the opportunity to work in partnership with people during their most treasured life events is even more rewarding than I imagined. How lucky am I!
A little bit about me
I’m a father, partner, brother & son.
There is nothing I treasure more than spending time with my beloved partner Mary and our big extended blended family. With a total of 6 kids between us, including my 2 boys, it is never dull and never boring!
Life in our household can be chaotic, demanding and noisy but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Coming from a large family myself I had to learn pretty quickly how to speak up and listen… having a good sense of humour came in handy to!
